Bridal Shower Towel Cake

Present the bride with two sets of towels in style. A wedding towel cake makes a great decoration at a bridal shower and is sure to bring lots of smiles. It is also very simple to make.
 
Supplies Required:

2 Bath Towels
2 Hand Towels
2 Wash Cloths
String of Pearls
Small Wedding Rings
Narrow Ribbon
Pins
Silk Flowers
Cake Plate on Pedestal
Carved Soap, Initial, or Candle for Topper3
Sharp Scissors
Measuring Tape

Step 1. Roll the Towels

Fold each hand towel in half lengthwise twice. Start with one end and roll the towels up as shown. Set aside. Repeat this process with the wash cloths. Fold each bath towel in half lengthwise and repeat the folding until the width of the towel is roughly 6". Roll the two towels together in the same way as the hand towels. You should now have the three layers of the "cake."  (Join second bath towel to end of first with pins. Continue coil, pinning at the end and tying layer with narrow ribbon to secure.)

Use hand towels for the second layer and wash cloths for the top (rolling each layer the same as the bath towels). Use pins to help keep each layer stable.

Step 2. Add the Ribbon

Cut the satin ribbon into 60", 40" and 30" lengths. Tie the large piece around the bath towels as shown. Repeat for the other two cake layers. When complete, stack the cake layers starting with the largest layer at the bottom.

Add the Details

Once the layers are stacked, move the cake to the final location. Pop the rose off of the stem and place it on top of the cake. Sprinkle rose petals around the cake remembering to put a few on the layers.  Decorative soaps can be tucked between layers, small silk flowers attached to the ribbons where they are tied. Drape the pearls on each layer. Add wedding rings with little bows around at random. At the top, use carved decorative soap, a carved candle, or large silk flowers for the topper, cake topper, or brides new initial to decorate top.

For the best presentation and appearance, the towel cake looks lovely when placed upon a pretty cake stand. This can be included in the gift for the bride, or it can be provided on loan on the day of the shower for decorative purposes only
